Ep.58 – Case study – Vegan slow transit constipation to normal

When I went healthy, it was really bad. That is what my client, Sian, said to me. She was suffering with daily bloating and pretty bad constipation. She was only going to the toilet every three days and really straining to get anything out. She was just sick of having such a sluggish digestion and wanted to eat a more varied diet.
I pull out these kind of case studies to show how Sian turned things around, as hopefully it will inspire you if you also have IBS. On this week’s episode of the Inside Knowledge podcast, I’ll be sharing Sian’s story and how she managed to get more regular bowel movements and enjoy her food again.

Ep.57 – Should we be eating 30 plants a week

When I finish working with my clients, if they’re feeling good, I often help them expand out their diet using the 30 plants a week target. They often worry this is massively unachievable, especially if they’ve been restricting the types of fruits and veg and grains that they eat for years. A few weeks into trying to hit this new target of 30 plant points a week, they can normally see how achievable it actually is.

Ep.56 – IBS advice to ignore by an IBS nutritionist

Should you ignore the advice I give you on this podcast? Of course, I hope that by listening to the podcast you can gain strategies and tips to make your digestion easier, less painful and more regular, but sometimes I’ll say things that just don’t apply to you. If you’re a regular listener, you’ll know I often suggest you ignore.
Crazy advice like eating only meat on the carnivore diet or going on a three day gut detox with loads of supplements. But what about my standard advice about managing IBS that works for most people? When should you ignore that? That’s what we’re going to cover in today’s episode of the Inside Knowledge podcast for people with IBS.

Ep.55 – The truth about stomach acid

Should you take hydrochloric acid capsules to increase your stomach acid? This might sound a little bit drastic, but it’s frequently said online that low stomach acid is a cause of all kinds of IBS type symptoms, but is it really? In this episode of the Inside Knowledge podcast, I’ll share my thoughts on low stomach acid and its role in your digestion.
I’ll cover how you might know if you’ve got low stomach acid, and ways that you can help to regulate your digestion to reduce bloating and gas and abdominal pain. So talk about the implications of having low stomach acid on your nutrient absorption and your overall health.

Ep.54 – Hidden IBS trigger ingredients

If you’ve had IBS for a while, you might be well aware of your common food triggers, maybe things like dairy, certain fruits and vegetables, or grains. But did you know some foods contain hidden ingredients that can trigger an IBS flare up? From artificial sweeteners, emulsifiers, to thickening agents and preservatives, these ingredients can lead to bloating, diarrhoea and abdominal pain in some people.
Often, if you don’t even realise that they’re in there. In this episode, I’m going to explore five specific food additives that you could watch out for. I’ll discuss where these ingredients are commonly found, how they might affect your digestive system, and why they might be the hidden culprits behind your flare ups.

Ep.53 – How your childhood eating could be affecting your IBS

If you’ve ever decided to change your diet to better support your digestion, but struggle to stick to this new way of eating, then this episode is for you. There are lots of reasons why we struggle to make changes to our diet. Could be down to time, lack of clarity on your goals, or just feeling really confused about what to eat.
But the other area I’m going to cover today is our attitudes to food, and how our childhood experiences of eating can influence what we do as an adult. This week I’m going to talk about how meanings are linked to foods, and how this can play a part in how challenging we find it to follow a new diet.

Ep.52 – The possible cause of your IBS-Diarrhoea

If you’re struggling with diarrhoea predominant IBS, you might be surprised to know that around 34%, that’s almost a third of people with IBSD may have something called bile acid diarrhoea or bile acid malabsorption. And that’s what I’m going to cover in this episode of the Inside Knowledge podcast.
I’ll cover what are bile acids, how do we make them, and why would you not be reabsorbing them. I’ll also be going through treatment and testing for bile acid diarrhoea, so that you can have a good conversation with your doctor about whether this could be the cause of your IBS.

Ep.51 – How to increase your appetite with IBS

Do you need to increase your appetite? Maybe you know you need to eat more food because you are considered underweight, but you just don’t feel like eating. It could be that you just don’t get on well with eating much, and you find it hard to get excited about food. In this episode of the Inside Knowledge Podcast, You’ll learn about how appetite works and how to stimulate your desire for food.
You’ll also learn how I suggest my gut reset clients measure their appetite, and you can download the tracker that I use with them to do this. So listen up for how to get a little bit more interested in food and hopefully start enjoying eating again.

Ep.58 – Case study – Vegan slow transit constipation to normal

Ep.50 – How to gain weight with IBS

Why is it so hard to put on weight if you’ve got IBS? Especially when you feel like you’re really eating enough already. Unexpected or undesired weight loss can be more prevalent with people who’ve got a diarrhoea predominant type of IBS because often the transit time of food doesn’t really allow for proper digestion.
But there are also people with constipation in a low body weight who really struggle to put on any weight. In this episode of the Inside Knowledge podcast, I’ll be sharing my advice on how to increase your energy intake without worsening your digestive symptoms in either SIBO or IBS. And you’ll also learn how to increase your appetite so you actually want to eat more.

Ep.58 – Case study – Vegan slow transit constipation to normal

Ep.49 – Case study – Fear of hunger & restriction

Are you listening to too many different sets of voices in terms of what to do for your IBS? In this episode, I’m going to go through another case study of a previous client I worked with who was listening to so many voices in the nutrition space about what is good for gut health. But she had created a set of rules that were actually inadvertently contributing to her IBS symptoms.
She was suffering with constipation, bloating, and constant gurgling, a really noisy digestion. This episode will explain how I worked with Fran to improve her digestion and her trust in her body.
